Born in 1815, Lantzius - Belinga was promoted to Dr. phil. at theUniversity of Göttingen on the basis of his dissertation ' Deevolutione sporidiorum in capsulis muscorum'. In 1847 he publsihedin 'Abhandlungen der Leopoldina' and in 'Botanische Zeitung' a contribution entitled 'Beiträge zur Kenntniß des inneren Baues der ausgewachsenen Mooskapsel, insbesondere des Peristoms'. His later publications did not focus on mosses.
