The authors give a precise and detailed account of the scholars whose botanical collections (both major and minor) are kept in the Herbarium Centrale Italicum (limited to the phanerogamic part). The work, however,is not limited to a simple catalogue of the collectors whose material is present in the Herbarium Centrale Italicum. To offer the reader a wider and more complete picture of how this important and conspicuous herbarium collection has been realized (the first in Italy and one of the main ones in Europe) in the space of two centuries, the authors also illustrate the most significant events of the history of the Botanical Museum as far as the personel and their related activities are concerned. - Quoted from the introduction.
