From the preface: The number ofspecies in the Iranian flora is estimated to be about 1000. Besides thecurrent research on the genus, the author felt the necessity of publishing an illustrated encyclopedia of the species. In this volume100 species have been selected. They are not in phylogenetical order and not close relatives systematically. These species have been mentioned in the synopsis key at the beginning of the book. For each species there is a complete description in English with special emphasis on the important taxonomic characters. All information about the habitat of the plant and also the collecting data and herbarium number are given too.So, if there is any difficulty and need of comparison one can easily find the specimen and if necessary, revise it. Also the distribution map of the species in Iran and their general distribution are given.
