The taxonomic revision of Asiatic and Oceanic species of Marchantia L.is based upon the study of structural variation in about 4000 specimens.Of the 132 described specific and infraspecific taxa, 30 are retained,and 42 new synonyms are proposed. Five new species are described: M.carrii, M. novogueneensis, M. philippinensis, M. solomonensis, M.streimannii.
