Plant Crib. 1998. illustrated. II,391 p. 4to. Paper bd.
The "Plant Crib" evolved from the need for guidance with recording and identification of plants for the BSBI Monitoring Scheme not covered adequately in the recommended text (Clapham, A.R., Tutin, T.G. &Warburg, E.F. (1981) "Excursion Flora of the British Isles" 3rd ed.). Ithas been particularly influenced by M.J.Wigginton & G.G.Graham (1981)"Guide to the identification of some of the more difficult vascular plant species" NCC England Field Unit occasional paper No. 1, and was stimulated into production by publication of J.M.Camus & A.C.Jermy(1987) "The BM Fern Crib". The Crib is intended to be a largely complementary supplement to Wigginton & Graham (1981) but should stand in its own right. It aims to revise and extend existing accounts, to draw attention to other problems, to incorporate recent work, and toindicate the current taxonomic status of certain groups and suggest howbest they be recorded. Due to the regional bias of Wigginton & Graham(1981), a number of accounts have been extended to cover Britain and Ireland as a whole, and those accounts completely superseded here are not re-indexed.
