Blamey, M
The illustrated flora of Britain and Northern Europe. 1989. over 2400 plants, native and introduced, described and illustrated in colour. 544 p. Lex8vo. Cloth.
From the preface: Our aim has been to provide an illustrated handbook to our wild flowers with both a fuller - indeed, within out limits a comprehensive - coverage and more numerous and detailed colour illustrations than is possible in a portable field guide. In the interests of keeping the book within reasonable bounds, we have followed other authors in omitting grasses, sedges, rushes and horsetails - all certainly flowering plants but of rather more specialist interest. Evenso, this left over 2500 species and important subspecies to cover, whether native or naturalized or regularly occurring as aliens or casuals. Garden escapes are always a problem, but we have tried to include all those that the reader is likely to encounter, as also a selection of important or conspicuous forestry trees.
Good second hand copy.
