A Flora of Napa County. Including Native and Naturalized Plants, Many Occurring in Adjacent Counties. 2020. 42 col. pls. 50 b/w pls. XII, 510 p. gr8vo.. Paper bd.
Napa County is world renowned for its fine wines, but less appreciated or known for the richness of its natural diversity. Studies over the years have shown wine country in the North Coast Ranges to be an important natural treasure of plant and animal species.
This Flora of Napa County is the first compilation of the known native and naturalized (introduced) plants into a text. While comprising about 0.5 percent of the land mass of California, Napa County harbors close to 1700 plant taxa (species & subspecies). Each taxon is briefly described
along with information on habitat preferences, blooming period, and abundance. Over half of the species are displayed in photographs and line drawings. Opening chapters and closing appendices review many other aspects of the natural environment of the county from climate and geography to Native American uses and wildlife habitats of many species.
