This volume contains a taxonomic treatment of the Indian species of thegenus Oberonia by two well-known orchidologists from India. The studycovers 41 species from Peninsular India. Two new species are described,two others are reduced to synonymy, and two taxa formerly consideredsynonyms are raised to species level, based on detailed studies of thecolumn. The species are grouped in six sections, largely following thesubdivision by Seidenfaden (1968), although the delimitation of thesections is changed to some extent.
