Biomarqueurs en ecotoxicologie aquatique. 2nd rev. ed. 2017. illus. 525 p. gr8vo. Broche.- In French.
Biomarkers, defined as observable and/or measurable changes at the molecular, biochemical, cellular, physiological or behavioural level, revealing an individual's present or past exposure to at least one chemical pollutant, are considered to be early and sensitive indicators of the deterioration of an organism's health. Environmental regulations are increasingly using biomarker methodology in conjunction with chemical analyses and ecological indices for environmental monitoring. Similarly, biomarkers and cascading effects between different levels of biological organisation are increasingly recognised in chemical risk assessment. This second edition has been thoroughly revised and enriched with the latest work on this subject, highlighting ecological biomarkers that enable changes of scale and thus the prediction of population effects: disturbances in energy metabolism or behaviour, damage to the genome or reproduction.
This book demonstrates that the ecological relevance of the approach can be increased by determining biomarkers in sensitive species or life stages, or in species that are key to the structure and functioning of ecosystems.
