Thedescriptions include morphometrics ( measure of length and widthranges, numbers of striae), descriptions of frustule shapes, endmorphology, central areas, raphe positioning, striae patterning andplacement, and other distinctive features. The reader is alerted aboutclosely related and similar species. The images in this document havecome largely from the collections of the authors and are restrictedto sites within temperate Australia ( south of 30 degr. S). They areprovided to assist in the identification of the common species ratherthan provide the full range of sizes and morphology.
