From the preface: In our work on volume 10 of the "Index Hepaticarum"we became aware of the importance of citing basionyms as accurately as possible. We therefore decided to concentrate on the re-edition of volumes 8 & 9, since so many names were originally published under Jungermannia and Lejeunea. Although the latter genus proved to be a nomenclatural nightmare, it was essential that these volumes be revisedand enlarged, stating the status of each entry, before other genera were treated.
