Walsh, Wendy
An Irish Florilegium. The Wild and Garden Plants of Ireland. 48 watercolours paintings by Wendy Walsh. Introduction by Ruth Ross and notes on the plates by Charles Nelson. 2nd ed. 2008. 224 p. folio. Hardcover.
Working only from nature, the author has painted a selection of the native and cultivated flora of Ireland, chosen not only for their botanical interest or beauty but also because they have an interesting history. Ireland has produced a surprising number of devoted and intrepid plant-hunters who have played a significant part in the introduction into Europe of plants from remote places. There is also a text about the history of plant collecting and horticulture by the Irish since the earliest times, and notes on the individual plants.
