An Irish Flower Garden. The history of some of our garden plants. With illustrations by Wendy Walsh. 1984. 23 plates (some coloured). 218 p. 8vo. Paper bd.
From the prologue: This essay is a celebration of a small fraction ofthe plants that are cultivted in Ireland. The present day gardener hasthousands of species and varieties from which to choose. Of these, Ihave selected over one hundred which have historic bonds with Ireland, through a garden, a nursery, an explorer, a botanist or a gardener. Someare indigenous to Ireland, but most of the plants have come from farafield. There is a tale to tell about each of the chosen plants, and thenarration of these histories is the main purpose of this work. I havenot attempted to write a garden manual, recounting how to cultivate theplants, for such information is contained in many other books which arereadily available.
