Benlloch Marti, Vicente, Alejandro Martin Albiar and Consuelo Lopez Moreno
Arboles Singulares de la Provincia de Albacete. 2015. illus. 432 p. Hardcover. - In Spanish.
This book is more than a catalogue of trees that stand out for their size, rarity or age. It is a treasure map. To find each of these 190 specimens, sometimes you have to get your calves wet, overcome vertigo, climb steep slopes and exhaust yourself on a long walk. But other times they are just around the corner, where they have always been, without our noticing them.
The work of the authors Vicente Benlloch (biologist) and Alejandro Martín (forestry engineer) has ranged from ethnographic research to botanical research, including cartography and adventure. They serve us a work of meticulous observation and tenacious and rigorous classification. A work that changes the way we look: the photographer Consuelo López gives form to what until now was invisible to us, as José Fajardo says in the prologue: "Nothing remains of the sacred forests of the Iberians. Of the old forests, formed by tree-centenarians, we are left with this handful of irreplaceable specimens".
