The floristic investigation of the province of Skane, S.Sweden, was mainly carried out between 1938 and 1972 by H.Weimarck and about 110 co-workers in the field. A total of 1491 wild vascular plant taxa are reported and 912 maps are given. In addition, 298 hybrids are listed.Major land forms, the bed-rock and its genesis are presented. Late-Glacial and Post-Glacial processes are described.
There is a brief account of the impact of man from Late-Glacial colonization to our days.Climatic and edaphic conditions are described. Vegetation types and their flora are presented, and recent floristic changes are noted. The history of the floristic investigation of Skane is surveyed from the16th century to the present day. A few main distribution patterns are presented and their causes and significance are discussed. A division of the province into two main parts is proposed, viz. a northerly part on acid substrates and a southerly part on more or less circumneutral substrates.
