There is no book which gives in detail descriptions of plants, accompanied with illustrations to help in the determination of plants ofNepal. This book titled "The Orchids of Nepal Himalaya" is the firstillustrated account which collates information about orchids found andreported from Nepal. The primary basis of this work is an extensive andintensive botanical exploration of the country carried over a period of20 years. The text is conventional in that after the Preface andIntroduction, it gives descriptions accompanied with pen and inkillustrations of 247 taxa that are actually present in the Herbarium,Botanical Survey of Nepal (KATH), Department of Medicinal Plants, HisMajesty's Government of Nepal. Two maps giving the distribution ofepiphytal and terrestrial species are also included. Pertinent synonyms,basionyms and selected references besides etymology and significance ofnames of orchid genera are included.
