A revision of 28 native and naturalised genera of Acanthaceae ispresented together with keys to infrafamilial,generic,specif. and infra-specific taxa.There is a brief history of each genus and the morphologyand floral biology of the genera have been discussed in comparativeterms.Past infra-familial classifications have been reviewed and theplacement of Australian genera within these is considered.Malesianmaterial and literature have been consulted in order to establishcorrect names as far as possible;where Australian taxa extend into NewGuinea, the New Guinea material has been included in the treatment.
