Modern Assays for Plant Pathogenic Fungi. Identification, Detection and Quantification. 1994. figs. tabs. XII,267 p. gr8vo. Paper bd.

This practically-oriented book provides both the theoretical backgroundand step-by-step protocols for methods employing new technologies forthe detection and identification of plant pathogenic fungi. Methods haverecently been developed which can be undertaken on a wide scale, withlarge numbers of samples, and which are simply to use, highly sensitiveand very specific. Hybridoma and DNA technologies provide the basis ofsuch assays and include the use of monoclonal antibodies, the polymerasechain reaction (PCR) and DNA hybridization. The book is based on paperspresented at a conference held in Oxford in March 1993 under the BRIDGE-COST-88 programme developed by the Commission of the EuropeanCommunities. A wide range of fungi, which are pathogens of a variety ofcrop and ornamental plants, is covered and the book is aimed at advancedstudies, research workers and professionals in mycology and plantpathology, including those involved in routine testing of plants forquarantine or other purposes.
