This atlas presents 236 taxa from 46 localities (Miocene toPleistocene) and 35 localities (Holocene, living), all from Japan.Centric diatoms make up 93 taxa, araphid pennate diatoms 30 taxa,monoraphid pennate diatoms 6 taxa and biraphid pennate diatoms 107taxa including 16 new species and 3 newly proposed combinations. Textopposite to the plates gives information on morphology, localities, sediments, ages and remarks in English. The plates show LM and SEMphotographs, with a total of 1176 high quality SEM photographs.
