Diatoms of Lower Lake Powell and Vicinity. (Diatoms of Southwestern USA,1). 1977. (Bibl.Phycol.,28). 20 pls. 119 p. gr8vo. Hardcover. - Reprint 2006.
This report on the lower Lake Powell system includes descriptions of 145 taxa representing 34 genera of diatoms (125 taxa representing 31genera have been observed as occurring in the system; 20 additional taxa including 3 additional genera are included because of their probable occurrence in the system)
Also included by name are other taxa that are known to occur in Arizona as reported by various authors (Hostetter,1968; Olsen and Sommerfeld,1970; Button and Blinn,1973; Johnson et al.,1975; Sommerfeld et al.,1975; Czarnecki et al.,1976) but have not as yet been recorded from the lower Lake Powell system. The index, therefore, is thought to be an up-to-date diatom flora list of Arizona, U.S.A.
The report also includes a brief glossary of routinely employed ecological and morphological terms, illustrated where appropriate. Ultimate taxa observed in the study may be identified with the aid of the ordinal, familial, generic, and ultimate keys. The twenty additional taxa are not necessarily included in these keys below the ordinal level.
All described taxa are illustrated in Plates 4-20. Plates 18-20 are composed of photomicrographs due to unique features of the taxa involved (ink drawings seem inappropriate for the descriptive interpretations). In addition, directly below each described taxonomic entry there is an appropriate published reference, which in most cases, was employed for the determination of that taxon.
