Victorian Orchids in Habitat. An Aid to their Identi- fication. 1988. 28 pages of colour photographs. many line-drawings. XXII,197 p. 4to. Paper bd.
From the preface: Colour photography of Victorian orchids in theirnatural habitat, and diagrams, mainly of the column and the labellum, drawn to scale, were done with the object of learning thecharacteristics which distinguish one orchid species from another, bothin the field and under the binocular microscope. The habitat may aididentification, since a certain assemblage of plants and situations mayindicate the presence of certain orchids, best sought after in theirflowering season. For example, Melaleuca thickets and the lizard orchidare associated in the Otways; Pterostylis tenuissima grows nearMelaleuca-edged creeks, while tongue orchids and swamps are someassociations. Etc.
