Traditional indigenous systems of medicine are a part of the rich andvast Indian heritage. Handed down through the centuries, they embody thesummun boun of knowledge regarding diseases and their cures; a completepharmacopoeia giving substances and drug preparations and they alsoinclude the properties of each substance and its uses. Earlier on, withthe practice of Ayurveda falling into untutored and unprincipled hands,the denigration of the whole system was a natural corollary.
