Delmarva Lichens. An illustrated manual. 2018. (Mem. of the Torrey Bot. Club, 28). 36 col. pls. 300 dot maps. 386 p. gr8vo. Hardcover.
The flora focuses on the Delmarva Peninsula, which is a large area near Washington D.C. and Philadelphia which is widely recognized as a convergence zone for temperate and subtropical floristic elements in eastern North America.
The flora is a full length book, published as volume 28 of the Memoirs of the Torrey Botanical Society. It includes a lengthy introduction, conservation assessments, identification keys, and full taxonomic treatments for 299 species. Each species treatment includes a description, discussion of ecology and distribution, discussion of/comparison to similar species, and a distribution map covering both the Delmarva and the surrounding region (parts of five states) where records are parsed based on their dates of collection (pre- and post- 1950). In addition there are color photographs included for nearly every species.
While the geographic focus of the book is on Delmarva, the keys and treatments include the vast majority of species that one would encounter along the Atlantic Coast from Boston south to New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Norfolk.
