The revision of the genus Pinnularia by KRAMMER(1992) contained European taxa only. This new monograph contains inaddition many new as well as already known taxa from North America,Asia, New Zealand/Australia, and South Africa. Consequently the geographical area covered by this new revision is much broader than thetitle of this book would make believe.Research with modern methods and most recent knowledge usually showplenty of inconsistencies in traditional taxonomy and result innumerous new combinations and new descriptions. This proves to be truefor 154 new species and varieties, 3 new genera and 42 new combinationsin the present monograph.
