Endemic Flora of Sardinia. 2026. 874 col. figs. 696 p.Hardcover: -In English, with Latin nomenclature.
Biodiversity is concentrated in specific areas of our planet known as "hotspots," which account for only 3% of the Earth's land surface. The Mediterranean is one of the world's major hotspots, home to over 25,000 vascular plant taxa, approximately 50% of which are endemic. Within this context, Sardinia stands out as a "mesohotspot" due to its exceptional floristic richness and uniqueness: with 2,464 species across 24,089 km², it boasts a floristic density nearly five times greater than that of Papua New Guinea. Its endemic flora comprises 343 plants, representing about 14% of its native flora. This volume—the first comprehensive, accessible work on Sardinia’s endemic vascular flora, published in both Italian and English—was created against this backdrop. Its aim is to raise awareness among communities and institutions regarding the importance of conserving this unique heritage and the responsibility of passing it on to future generations.
