In order to improve the ability and level of grass-roots technicians to identify orchids, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China decided to compile a field identification manual of orchids suitable for grass-roots technicians. Therefore, highlighting the characteristics of field identification is the distinctive feature of this book.

These characteristics do not require basic technicians to dissect them by "moving a knife and a gun", which is very convenient for use in field investigations; and this book is novel in conception, using the form of table comparison . The accompanying picture points out the key identifying features of the listed plants, which is similar to the dialogue between "people and tables". Each feature can be placed in the right place. Compared with a large and comprehensive full text introduction, it is more convenient for people who do not have much knowledge of classification to master; Orchids are one of the most evolved groups of seed plants. In recent years, with the extensive and in-depth research, new species and newly distributed species have been discovered. Therefore, this book refers to the Flora of China. A large number of documents were consulted, and many newly published species at home and abroad were included, in order to include as many orchid plants as possible.
