Flora alloctona e invasiva d'Italia. 2010. illus. (col.). 208 p. Paper bd.- In Italian.

This volume presents the great diversity of the allochthonous vascular flora of Italy through the analysis of the regional distribution of the 1,023 plant species of exotic origin, i.e. introduced by man from other geographical regions, which reproduce autonomously and have therefore become part of part of the local flora. The emphasis is placed on invasive plants, i.e. on that limited group of species that spread rapidly over large areas, often causing damage to the environment, human health or property. The importance of knowing the ecology of these species and of increasing the awareness of the population regarding the risks associated with irresponsible attitudes such as the release of exotic animals and plants into the environment and the spread of the most harmful entities is highlighted. The main result that emerges from the study is that the conservation of ecosystem functionality and the correct use of the territory and its resources do not allow the onset of serious invasive events and are the necessary premises for the introduction of new species to take place in balance with the environment.
