The Ducke Reserve in the Central Amazon was the subject of anintensive floristic study between 1992 and 1999. The project showedthat the biodiversity of the Reserve was much higher than had beenanticipated. Data presented are chronicling the history of botanicalexploration of the area. Based on the experience of the project,recommendations are made about procedures of inventory of plant speciesin tropical forests.
