A thoroughly revised version of the original Thesis. It is designed toprovide much more information than a District Flora usually does: 1.references to protologue literature and citation of type genus/typespecies, respectively, for 125 families and some 500 genera of Indianangiosperms, would aid those investigators in fundamental taxonomicresearch, who do not have easy access to Farr et al. (1979), IndexNominum Genericorum (Plantarum), to Stafleu and Cowan (1976-1987),Taxonomic Literature 2 and to the International Code of BotanicalNomenclature (Berlin Code), 1988; 2. a mine of information on theeconomic/medicinal uses of plants, both as a separate section andappended as notes against many species dealt with and citation ofSanskrit/Local names for most species would act as: a. an aid fordevelopment of plant-based rural and cottage industries, b. a guide tothe practitioners of Ayurvedic/Unani medicines, and c. a Handbook forenvironmentalists to focus attention on conservation of indigenousgermplasm of economic plants and or rare/threatened/endangered taxa inall-India context. Nomenclature of several taxa has been up-dated, withcritical comments, as and when called for, citing references topublications, upto 1988.
