The Republic of France, with an area of 550 786 square kilometers has a flora, including Corsica, of some 4354 species. Coste's work is the standard modern descriptive flora of the area. Gives general features of vegetation and soils, botanical regions and zones (by Flahault);keyed, descriptive flora of vascular plants with local and general range and figure of each species. Infraspecific taxa are not mentioned;single authorities (without reference to place of publication) are given for all specific names, and few synonyms are listed. The reissue does not contain the coloured map, which was contained in the first edition.
