Flore Nordique du Québec et du Labrador. Vol. 1. 2013. 33 plates. Many col. photogr. & dot maps. VI, 553 p. gr8vo. Hardover. - In French.
This is the first of four volumes devoted to the Flora of the Vascular Plants of the Northern Regions of Quebec and Labrador, from the 54th parallel north to Hudson Strait, from James Bay and Hudson Bay in the west to the Labrador Sea in the east.
The work is the result of a long-term collaboration between several Quebec botanists. It brings together new knowledge and data on northern plants from boreal, subarctic and arctic environments.
This volume includes introductory texts on the geography of the region, the history of herborizations and the biogeography of the taxa. An identification key for all plant families growing in this vast northern region is also presented.
The morphological characteristics of taxa belonging to 32 different families are described, ranging from lycopods to rushes, ferns, conifers, pondweeds and orchids. The botanical description of each taxon is accompanied by photographs of plants and organs with diagnostic characters, a distribution map and a commentary on the ecology and habitat of each.
