This guide conveys to readers the amazement and fascination aroused by the landscapes of the Spanish fir, taking as a reference the observations of three 19th century naturalists: Simón de Rojas Clemente, Edmond Boissier and Maurice Willkomm. But, although it may seem obvious, it is clear from these texts that the Spanish fir was already a protagonist before Boissier discovered it for science in 1859. It was not in vain that it was yet another contribution from Andalusia to the best examples of biodiversity in Europe.

In 2011, the International Year of Forests, the Regional Ministry of the Environment approved the Spanish Fir Tree Recovery Plan. We are equipping ourselves with the tool that will guarantee its presence among us and for generations to come. Among many measures, the Recovery Plan includes actions to educate and raise social awareness of the need to conserve the Spanish fir. Because, in short, we love more and better what we know.
