Guia Visual de la Flora Vascular de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Lanzarote. 2018. 825 col. photogr. 583 p. Paper bd.- In Spanish.
This guide contains about 50% of the floristic elements that grow on the island, arranged in 234 descriptive sheets and illustrated with more than 825 photographs taken during 10 years of field work.
Below 250m asl. - i.e. in the middle of the island - Lanzarote has a dry and predominantly desert climate. But its dry landscapes are not lifeless for most of the year, but rather dormant. The annual grasses that soon sprout, flower and die after the first autumn rains also flood the soil with their seeds. They always have the hope that in the coming year the rains will come again and again and the moisture in the soil will make them germinate. If this happens we will then be able to witness the synchronised flowering of thousands of small plants. It is a spectacle almost exclusive to deserts: unusual, ephemeral and unforgettable.
