Summer - Flowering Phlox. Cultivars. Complete checklist. 2017. 127 p. gr8vo. Paper bd.
Tall Phlox cultivars are among the most important border plants for summer impact. Beloved by gardeners all over the world, summer phlox has been subject to breeding and improving for nearly two centuries. While phlox cultivars are not quite as numerous as those obtained for some other garden perennials, an extensive listing of named varieties has been lacking.
Now, two phlox lovers are presenting a comprehensive checklist of the cultivars in existence. Going beyond a simple listing of correct names, it gives precise statements of the plant's origin and date of introduction wherever available and includes a short description of the flower colour for each plant.
The authors have compiled information from around the world, comparing and evaluating historic and new documents, as well as including the most current information from present-day breeders wherever possible, obtained through personal communication. Also, for the first time, a major number of cultivars resulting from the distinguished Russian breeding efforts are included. These varieties, which so far have found only glancing international mention, are being met with ever-increasing interest by avid gardeners and plant collectors alike. As a result, the authors were able to compile a surprising number of more than 1,500 named phlox varieties currently in existence.
