Some of them have been marginalized with respect totheir original function or their potential uses; others have practically been forgotten. They are plant species which, at other timesor under other conditions, played a fundamental role in the agricultureand food supply of indigenous peoples and local communities. This bookcontains contributions by 31 authors. Deals mainly with South Americanand Caribbean plants and Peninsular Iberia, including study of possiblereciprocal moves of exchange of flora and crops begun in 1492 betweenthe two sides of the Atlantic.
