The plates in this edition have been reproduced from the originalpaintings of William Hooker commissioned by the Horticultural Society ofLondon between 1815 and 1820, with the exception of plates 31, 36, 43,47, 74 and 94 which are reproduced from engravings in Hooker's PomonaLondinensis (1816-18). The original works are in the Lindley Library ofthe Royal Horticultural Society. This is the first time that WilliamHooker's original paintings have been gathered together, with the bestof the engravings, for publication in volume form.
