The effects of increasingly acidic rains and snow have causedconsiderable concern in aquatic ecosystems. However, while an increasein the acidity of precipitation has been well documented over wideareas, the effects on terrestrial systems consisting of forests andagriculture have not been agreed upon. The present volume representsthe views and consensus of a group of the world's scientific experts inthis field. The effects on vegetation, soils and lakes are discussed.The major monitoring programs and experimental programs in Europe andNorth America are described.
