This book tells the story of the discovery of a new orchid species by the North Sea and provides a nice insight into the work of a botanical illustrator.

In March 2020, a plant species was discovered in Noordwijk that is new to the Netherlands: the Hyacinth orchid or Giant orchid. It is one of the largest orchid species in Europe. The species has not been seen in the Netherlands before. Six specimens were discovered that spring.

Esmee Winkel got the chance to record this discovery as a botanical illustrator. In Hyacinth orchid she tells the story of the discovery of a special plant. Moreover, she gives the reader a fantastic insight into the work of a botanical illustrator.
