Volume 1 selects 612 common and distinctive plant species and revises the species descriptions in the Chinese and English versions of the Flora of China, incorporating specimens and field photographs. It includes some newly published species from recent years. Since species morphological descriptions are largely based on specimens, there are some differences compared to live specimens in the field, especially in the descriptions of color, texture, and size. Furthermore, compared with type specimens, some species descriptions contain errors, and the standardization of terminology is somewhat vague. This book strives to unify standards, standardize descriptions, and supplement some field characteristics. Due to space limitations, the Chinese descriptions of species are limited to 400 words, with concise descriptions and deletions of parts not of significant taxonomic value.
