The Caatinga is exclusively a Brazilian biome. It extends almost to 1 million square kilometres in the region of Northeast of Brazil, embracing a small part of Minas Gerais state. Despite such a vast geographical reach, very little is known about its biodiversity. Legumes of the Caatinga sheds new light on a significant part of its flora. As the name suggests, the book focuses exclusively in the most diverse family in the Caatinga, Leguminosae, with 86 genera and 320 species. Including infraspecific taxa, it covers a total of 341 taxonomic entities. In addition, the book offers information about the phylogeny and taxonomy of this family.
