LEWINGTON, Anna
Plants for People. 1990. many colour photographs.232 p. 4to. Cloth.
The author traces the plant-derived materials that are found in everything from car tyres to toothpaste, back, literally, to their roots in areas as diverse as the Amazon rainforest and the lavender fields of France, and looks too at the uses native people make of plants. Rainforest body paints are considered alongside cosmetics; the ancient use of fig bark for cloth is contrasted with our modern use of woodpulp for the latest fashion wear.
Good second hand copy.
