Plantas Acuaticas de la Orinoquia Colombiana. 2017. illus.(col.) XL, 611 p. gr8vo. Paper bd.- In Spanish.
'Plantas acuaticas de la Orinoquia colombiana' presents, through short descriptions and detailed photographs taken during three years of fieldwork, about three hundred species of aquatic plants of the lower Orinoco basin in Colombia.
It is written in a language that aims to reach the general public without neglecting the scientific and rigorous character of Botany. It is the most complete list of aquatic plants of the Colombian Orinoquia compiled to date, the product of the collection of specimens in the field and classified in the herbarium by the authors.
One of the objectives of this book is to inspire and instruct the reader whether sitting at home, studying at university, working in a herbarium or walking through the majestic floodplains of the Colombian Orinoquia. In the field, the book serves as a tool for the identification of species by professional and amateur botanists, from the plains or any other region of the country, Colombians or foreigners.
The beauty of the aquatic flora of the Orinoquiacolombiana, captured in the photos included here, is an incentive to look beyond the apparent monotony of the grasslands that dominate the savannas and discover among the zurales, caños and morichales an immense cryptic diversity. After all, the Colombian Llanos are very diverse environments with unique species that deserve to be appreciated for their beauty and ecological importance, as well as protected from the terrible threats they face today.
