Nouvelle Flore de la Belgique, du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg, du Nord de la France et des Régions voisines (Ptéridophytes et Spermatophytes). 7th edition. 2024. 1001 p. gr8vo. Hardcover.- In French.
This seventh edition of 2024, edited by Filip Verloove and Fabienne Van Rossum, is an anniversary version: for half a century now, the Botanical Garden Meise has been publishing Belgium's standard flora.
Compared to the last French-language edition, which dates from 2012, about a hundred new species have been added to the determination keys. Often, but not exclusively, these are recently introduced species. It reflects how plant growth is changing, partly due to climate change.
In addition, hundreds of revisions have been made, notably reflecting recent insights into taxonomy at the species, genus, family and order levels. Global DNA research has accelerated the study of plant species evolution in recent decades. This edition follows that most recent knowledge. The taxonomically difficult groups Salix (willow), Rosa (rose), Rubus (blackberry) and Taraxacum (dandelion) were completely reworked by specialists. The distribution data were revised based on updated dates.
The flora now covers 2,781 taxa and is the most complete and scientifically best-supported flora work available for this regions.
