Detailed descriptions of all species are given and an artifical key to thespecies is provided. Parts of flowers and fruits are depicted, andphotographs of some species are added. Distribution maps of all specieshave been prepared. Attention has also been paid to morphology, habitat and life-cycle, pests, the importance of cultivation, hybrids, infrageneric groupings, unidentified specimens and doubtful names. Idid not succeed in finding a satisfactory grouping of the genus, probably because Aponogeton is typically a genus with reticulaterelationships.
