This book presents the results of eight years of fieldwork conducted across a region heavily altered by human activity, yet still harboring remnants of coffee plantations, cattle pastures, eucalyptus and pine forests, and other land uses. The fieldwork took place in Engenheiros Passos—extending through Itatiaia, Resende, Serrinha, Fumaça, Vargem Grande, and Visconde de Mauá (up to the border with Minas Gerais at Picú Itamonte)—as well as in Barra Mansa, Bananal, Volta Redonda, and Arapeí. The volume is fully illustrated with ink drawings (executed with a dip pen), high-resolution photographs, and high-quality macro shots. Comprising 364 pages, the book features a luxurious layout and superb graphic production quality, including a hardcover binding with gold-foil accents and 200 gsm coated paper. It stands as the first book dedicated to the orchids of the Southern Fluminense region—the very area where F.C. Hoehne was once captivated by the color variations of *Cattleya bicolor*, the beauty of *Cattleya velutina*, the "Jewel of the Paraíba" (*Cattleya perrinii*), and the stunning *Cattleya crispa*, among hundreds of other species.
