The Phytolaccaceae and Achatocarpaceae occurring in Ecuador arerevised. Keys, descriptions and full specimen citations are provided forall taxa and many species are illustrated. Eight genera ofPhytolaccaceae are documented from Ecuador, viz. Gallesia (1),Seguiera (1), Petiveria (1), Rivina (1), Trichostigma (2), Hilleria(2), Phytolacca (6) and Microtea (2). The genus Ledenbergia occursin northern Peru and may be expexted in southern Ecuador.Morphologically intermediate specimens are relativelyy frequent inPhytolacca and variation patterns sometimes indicate hybridization andbackcrossing. Two species of Achatocarpus, the sole genus ofAchatocarpaceae in South America, are recognized from Ecuador.
