Perspectives in Environmental Management. Addresses Delivered at the 73rd Session of the Indian Science Congress. 1987. figs. XVI,484 p. gr8vo. Cloth.
Today, there is a high degree of awareness about environment. While, awareness helps to highlight the problems, it alone cannot help to setright the environmental damage. Inevitably, what must follow is adetailed scientific analysis so as to evolve strategies for solution ofthe problems. This would in turn lead to sustainable development. It isin this context that the present book is important and is the result ofthe deliberations of the 73rd Session of the Indian Science CongressAssociation whose focal theme was "Science and Technology inEnvironmental Management". The area of environment is indeedmultidisciplinary and trans-sectoral and the book attempts to look atenvironmental problems by involving mathematical, physical, chemical, biological, energy or engineering sciences. The book also includes a fewoverview papers, on the state of the environment at national andregional levels. There is also a paper on economics-environmentinterdependence.
