This book is a synthesis of current knowledge about the way canopiesgrow, develop and function. Canopies display properties which areadditional to those of the constituent leaves and branches. Theseproperties are considered in terms of the processes, such astranspiration and photosynthesis, by which the canopy and its aerialenvironment interact. Examples are drawn from a wide range of plantcommunities (not just trees) and geographical locations.
