The present volume, which begins the series - PLANTAS DO BRASIL - ARVORES NATIVAS - , initially covers 200 trees that naturally occur somewhere in the country. Numerically it is still a modest approach, in relation to the large number of native trees that occur in Brazil, but significant in popularizing and spreading the knowledge about the biodiversity of our beautiful and rich forests.

The entire series, initially estimated to have more than 10 volumes, will be released gradually over the next few years and will cover more than 2,000 tree species from the most diverse corners of Brazil. This is the result of several years of studies, research, and several botanical expeditions made throughout the country.

The work's main objective is to provide easy recognition of the trees, through descriptions and images, helping those interested in the process of botanical identification and encouraging this exciting activity, which is the study and observation of our flora.

Indirectly, it aims to promote knowledge and spread information about our native trees, especially their correct identification and potential use, seeking to sensitize and make people aware of the benefits and importance of conserving forested areas.

The description of the species provides the currently valid scientific name, botanical synonyms, popular names, morphological description, phenology, uses, ecology, propagation, and geographical distribution.

The photographs are author's and were taken in the field, under natural light conditions, trying to portray important aspects, such as the leaf, branch and bark, which allow the recognition of a species even in its vegetative state (without flowers or fruits). Whenever possible, 7 photographs were taken, among them: isolated individual (1), branch (2), pair of leaves showing both faces (3), external bark (4), flower (5), fruit (6) and seed (7).
