Plants of the Nyika Plateau: An account of the vegetation of the Nyika National Parks of Malawi and Zambia. 2005. (Southern African Botanical Diversity Network Report,31) illus. XIII, 405 p. 4to. Paper bd.
The Nyika Plateau is a unique ecosystem and one of the worlds hotspots. Twenty four participants from six countries took part in an expedition to the plateau in March 2000, collecting 3 343 plant specimens. A checklist was started in 1999 and as a result of this expedition, a refined version of the list is published in this book. The list comprises 684 genera, 160 families and 1 891 taxa. A drawing of each genus is supplied so that identification will be made easier. Sandie Burrows did most of the drawings. Included are: climate, soils, landslips, fire, vegetation communities, plant diversity, edemism, herbarium acronyms, photographs and information on collectors, a list of contributors, a glossary, references, and an index to common and scientific names.
